Welcome to December Blogmas

So, I’ve decided for this year during the month of December I’m going to try something new, attempting to blog everyday. My site has went…well I think a little stale. Mainly I believe because of my lack of consistency. In reading everything about having a successful site having lots of content is the key or sticking with a certain niche and that’s not for me, at least not 100% of what this Blog is about. Although sometimes I go off topic the point of this is what it started out to be, my cancer journey and how I can relay it to the reader, at the same time be relatable and improve my story-telling. That’s the part that stands out to me the most, the story-telling and it’s a tricky way for someone, like myself as an untrained writer to get the post to draw my audience in and leave you wanting more, waiting for that next post to drop. In a world full of millions of blogs, getting mine to stand out and attract new readers is the biggest challenge. One I’m ready to embrace and after three years I haven’t given up yet, never will, to put it metaphorically my will-power and stubbornness to fight this Cancer is the same effort I will put into this blog. Therefore when I’m done, this site will be done and that plan is nowhere in sight. Now the only thing I ask of my readers is to go ahead and share a post you like or the whole site if you want, even better. Just one share on any social platform would be an enormous help in reaching more people, not just to be more successful it’s that I’d like to spread this message of hope and resiliency in an ever increasing dark time we all seem to find ourselves in. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

WellSpring Poetry Class

Once again I happily found myself back at Wellspring Stratford for Poetry class, I find it’s more than just a way of improving my writing ability, but is also very therapeutic and can help draw emotions from inside and put them on paper, also a great resource to meet people dealing with how cancer has affected their lives. A way to express some of the pain and frustration that comes from cancer either directly or indirectly and also it’s just good plain old fun, this coming from a guy who once hated writing or showing emotion, times sure have changed. I figure everyone has to practice at whatever their chosen hobby is to be, practice makes perfect or as close as it’ll get, say like oil painting for example, brush strokes, colour, it all takes time. Part of my attempt to post everyday for a month will be to better myself at part of my new craft, poetry. Don’t worry I won’t go on about how the roses are red and…well you get the picture, but just like an artist has to practice their techniques to improve a painting, so does a writer undertaking a new form of expression.

My Hope

Before I end this with one of my poems my hope is to not only to continue to bring you along on my journey, but to also encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and give something new a try. Life can become stale and as I’ve gotten older hobbies I once took joy in become a thing of the past leaving me wondering, “What do I do now?” I have fallen victim to watching the time tick by and procrastinating over things and experiences I want to try. Writing hopes and dreams down help bring them to life and can help make yourself accountable, more likely to accomplish goals and ambitions. You don’t need a “Life Coach”, just a pen and some paper and hey, if this inspires you then all the better my advice is free, my only wish is for you to feel better and better.

Ode to the Outdoors

It is the solace that I need, no what I crave
The paddle hits the tea stained water, pushing my vessel forward
Wind in my face, makes for a challenging pace
Within seconds a smile cracks upon my face
I leave all the worlds trouble behind
It's so simple now, carrying only what I need
My camera may record, but mental pictures is what propels me
Almost meditative, the landscape puts me in a trance
Forgetting all the muscle pain and difficulties that lie ahead
The hard work pays off, I'm alone in sheer silence
Not easy getting to where I'm going, but my resilience is now a big part of me.

I promise all the poetry I write won’t be about my passion for the outdoors, but it’s a good way to start. If you like what you’ve read please share, like, subscribe and or comment. Also attached below is another project I’m working on so feel free to subscribe to my YouTube Channel as I hone my content and editing there as well. Cheers, Steve

Good line. And a truism for life.
