Well it’s been about a week, so how’s the bounce back coming after having emergency gallbladder surgery? Last time we spoke I was still very sore and tender in the abdomen area. Hurt to sneeze, laugh, even standing up was a challenge. Until you’ve had an operation on your core area you really have no idea how important of an area the really is. Every movement done with the body usually involves some muscle from that area. Although laparoscopy surgery limits the damage there is still four holes cut in your body. Seems the one just above the belly button and another just below the centre of the ribcage are the bigger of the two. So, my original scar from my bowel resection has grown by about three inches.(That’s what she said). Since my last post the healing has come along pretty good. I had a setback when stubborn me lifted something way over ten pounds, nothing serious just basically a reality check. One that told me to listen and let other people do things me for. Not an easy lesson for someone who likes to keep busy and push to hard. It hurt and had me on the way to familiar now, couch.
Now that the bandages are off and incisions have healed, leaving some bruising still I’m feeling much more like myself. No more painkillers that do work, but what a fog they created. Being a bit bored now is my battle. While I’m able to get out for walks now there is still no lifting over 10lbs, I believe for another week! It sucks not even being able to carry in a bag of groceries, take out the garbage. Feeling weak is mentally frustrating for me. I had just started to consistently exercise more and was looking forward to head back to the gym for the first time in years. I felt ready as I have some lofty goals for next years adventures and my goal is to try and reach the fittest I have ever been. This blog being titled what it is I feel I should at least be running. Which I have to admit hasn’t been the case for well over a year now and in the back of mind I do at times beat myself up over that.
So within the next month things will switch up around here, no more procrastinating about putting on my running shoes again. I even bought a new pair a year ago. I’ve done the research into how to shape myself physically for my adventurous lifestyle and understanding I’m 53 now, not 25. That being said I’m not going to put a limit on how hard I attempt push myself, life has been prefect, loving, fun and comfortable and while that’s great it has left me a little soft. When the healing is done it’s time to dig deep. One thing this setback has taught me again is that pain lets you now your still alive. While I don’t want to go through the pain of surgery again, the pain of pushing yourself or myself only makes you a tougher, more resilient human.
My Take-away
This latest health issue has once again brought to my attention that time is finite. Given that I have and always will carry underlying health concerns life has to adjust accordingly. I grew this great new over the last two years. Now I need to take what I’ve learned and keep striving for the betterment not only as a partner, but an individual as well. We all should continuously try and grow and be better humans. It’s tough in today’s world as we are bombarded with social platforms that are lies, always showing these perfect unattainable lifes. News and politics meant to create fear and drive wedges between us. It’s all just, for lack of a better word…SHIT. For the last while I have drastically reduced my watch time, but hey some of this stuff is so ridiculous you just can’t help and watch. Today’s “leaders” are some of the worst that I can remember. Leaders should inspire, unite, not divide and create chaos. What am I getting at? I guess it comes down again to how I spend my time. I love my life therefore strive to make it better, there will be setbacks along the way. It comes down to how you handle those setbacks, do the old “whoa me” or learn, fail, reset and comeback stronger. There’s a great world out there we are blessed to live in opportunities don’t just fall at your feet feet. You have to get out there and earn them.
- I want this blog to reach more people, I have to inform and entertain so you want to come back.
- I want to accomplish tougher adventures, I have to improve my outdoor skills and dive in. Stop procrastinating
- I want a fitter body, I need to develop a consistent routine that works for me
- I want to be a better partner, I need to listen better and communicate effectively
Now these are just a few of the things in my life I want to keep improving upon. Having a full, happy life will no doubt extend how long I’m here. Outside of that I feel I want to push for greatness and I’m not even sure what that looks like, but I hope to find it. I am just a regular man given an illness I’m not sure I’ll ever totally understand. It gave me a story and storyteller is what I’ve become. Join me along the way.
