Adjusting Life: Lessons from My Canoe Trip

Well that really sucked! I had a good post almost all finished up when the laptop decided to restart and of course the auto save function didn’t work….ugh. I had written a piece on adjustment. Meaning learning to adjust in whatever aspect of your life could change. Whether it’d be for the good or bad.

I have recently returned from my first canoe trip this year where we needed to adjust the route, lakes. timing. Basically every aspect wasn’t part of the original plan. While sometimes this can surprisingly work out well, this time I (we) found ourselves always in tough shituations. Yes, I meant to spell it like that. So, instead of rewriting what I thought was a good post this one will be very short to get something out before the long weekend. Then dive back in again.

Funny and ironic I find myself adjusting to a post I wrote about adjusting. Anyway sometimes you just can always find yourself paddling against the wind, both figuratively and literally. We found ourselves in that position many times last week. I have some video, but doesn’t do it justice. Trust me when I say 60km winds and two and a half foot rollers in 40 degree water will definitely push your resolve, test your skill and see how crazy you just really are.

Whitecapping, video doesn’t do it justice.

Being able to adjust and adapt have been part of my life now that I think of it for a long while now. So, with this post I will leave a gallery of my latest pictures of a trip into Algonquin Park. If you’ve never been ya gotta go. Although I was skunked, saw limited wildlife and was for the most part cold. There is still something magical about sleeping in the bush. It awakens all your senses. I’ll be back very shortly with what I really have to say about adjust to a life upended. I the meantime here are some past posts, video and like I said pictures. Enjoy! Consider subscribing.
